NTS Radio and Tief get together to present NYC's Beats In Space.

Beats In Space is a radio show mixed live by Tim Sweeney and guests in New York City on WNYU 89.1 FM every Tuesday night from 10:30pm to 1:00am. The show began in the fall of 1999 and has not missed a week since then.

Palmbomen II -

Between moving from Berlin to Los Angeles, Kai Hugo spent the summer of 2013 in Holland, and made an album (self titled) for his new project Palmbomen II. This album will be released on Beats In Space records on march 3rd 2015. Influences for Palmbomen II are early Chicago records from artists like Jamal Moss, Steve Poindexter, Larry Heard and Virgo Four combined with European electronic artists from the same time such as Alexander Robotnick, Das Ding, Philippe Laurent among others. Hugo decided that he wanted to have the same work ethics as the artists he was listening to. He concluded that the spontaneity and roughness of these songs are a results of the nonexistence of ‘total recall’ in the way people were forced to work in those times. Make your rhythms and harmonies, arrange these and play them live, record to tape, and that’s it. This is very different from today’s production methods. When sculpting something for weeks or months, tracks often tend to get sterile, and lose their initial spontaneity.

Mount Liberation Unlimited -

Mount Liberation Unlimited is the brainchild of Stockholm natives and life long friends Tom Lagerman and Niklas Janzon. With a friendship rooted in musical exploration since their teens the two have evolved together through classical training, bands and music schools crafting what is today their own take on house music. Born out of a desire to separate themselves from the musical context they had earlier found themselves in, and from the musical rules, norms and conventions the two had acquired over the years. MLU wants to explore the cross over landscape between human groove and electronic synchronization, finding meaningfulness in their own perception of dance music. The result first saw daylight with their highly acclaimed debut EP ”Astro Travelling Through Life” on Junk Yard Connections in 2014, including their track ”Clinton Space Funk” which was quickly picked up by the likes of Gerd Janson, creating an instant demand for more.

Performing live, the most important aspect for MLU is just that. Being live. With a hardware heavy setup they bridge the gap between electronic instruments and their own musicianship, always leaving room for improvisation to be able to feed off the crowd and create something unique for the moment. This show will be the first time the pair perform in the UK.

Matt Karmil -

Matt Karmil was born near the giant pre-historic glockenspiel / mythical neolithic monument known as Stonehenge. Today he produces and plays a particular form of playful and moody dance music for some of the world’s finest record labels and dance floors. Matt was a sickly, introspective child – his boyhood days were spent indoors, practising the classical guitar for endless hours. He got well in his early twenties, smashed the guitars and headed out into the big world outside Salisbury, England. Since that day, Matt follows music wherever it takes him – years of djing, record collecting and working as a producer-engineer in London, Paris, Stockholm and Berlin led to him finding a new home in Cologne by 2012. Matt soon befriended the tight-knit yet open-minded community of music lovers centred around the legendary Kompakt imprint. Last year Karmil released the jubilant club anthem “So You Say” on Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space Records and remixed John Talabot and Axel Boman’s Talaboman single.

2015 will see a tidal-wave of new releases from Matt, including his second album, this time to be released by Bristol label Idle Hands, as well as a 12” for London’s Yumé Records, recently premiered by Boiler Room and supported by Ben UFO, Barnt and Matthew Herbert. He will continue to follow the music.
