To slag England off in such a way is a disgrace ....
Don't forget your roots mr B
I can empathise with Harvey's view on the UK. It's been a long time since he was part of the music scene here so his views are perhaps slightly inaccurate. But as an older DJ assocatied with digging, disco and the like, he's probably worried that his return could draw the wrong crowd and wrong vibe. From his crowd surfing antics at Eleven to his NYE equipment destroying, its plain to see he's an entertainer and performer as much as he's a DJ/record collector and musician. His concern is about having and showing a good party. In Japan that happens. There are the usual Japanese obssessive otaku types, but the wealth of age variety and fun is much more apparent than somewhere in the UK. A lot of the serious people he left the scene from and muso types who would be record spotting around the decks wouldn't fulfil much of a hedonisitc affair or atmosphere. Hopefully, I'm wrong and so is he and someone will get it right and he will willingly come and play.
whatever.
tell him to get down allez-allez, secret sundaze, the nest, disco bloodbath, plastic people, cable, camp, naive melody etc etc in whatever order he wants.
That "needs ending" track is also on this mix:

I was just in London and went to a few amazing shows. I loved the Nest and the East Village Club - both had great shows with awesome fun crowds of people. I think I would take shit he says with a grain of salt. People talk shit about San Francisco all the time (where I live) and about 10% of it is true. It is just that the 10% shit about everyone is a vapid trend latching hipster gets repeated over and over. Most people here (and in London) love a wide variety of electronic music and know how to have a good time. Bigger venues anywhere will always have tools and bros.
Kind of lame to complain about Londoners disrespect to their own city and then slate it himself, especially when he isn't in any way involved it any more and hasn't been for years and years. I have a lot of respect for Harvey, but maybe he should practice what he preaches, especially when so much world changing dance music is happening there at the moment. If it's true that he just feels that he doesn't want beardey guys there, then maybe he shouldn't be playing prog and disco.. kids here have changed the world of dance music in the past few years. I just don't know how exciting prog and disco is for a young person to be honest.
Either way. Gonna leave it there, his banter is always hilarious and probably best to take with a pinch of salt.
DJ Harvey talks too much. Perhaps he regretted his comments afterwards, but i found some of the things he had to say were a tad disrespectful, especially on a radio show that has such a global audience. It sounded like Tim was a bit uncomfortable. Not to mention, I like hearing from the DJ at the start of the show, but not for half an hour. I did enjoy his track selections, though!
Better late than never. Just listened to this, great music and I enjoy Harvey talking :) Track 6. must be an edit of Amon Düül - Spaniards and Spacemen, great one indeed!
